Meiying Maya Zhang is a supporting character of the 2018 film, The Meg and the tritagonist of 2023 film, Meg 2: The Trench.
Meiying is also of daughter of the late Suyin Zhang, the granddaughter of the late Minway Zhang, the niece of Jiuming Zhang and the step-daughter of Jonas Taylor.
Biography[]
The Meg[]
Meiying spends a most of her time on Mana One, an ocean platform, because her mother, Suyin work there. When she meets billionaire Jack Morris, he says incomprehensible sentences in Chinese and Suyin asks Zhang to clarify it in Chinese. When Morris asks what she is saying, Meiying claims she said she liked his cap. After the Origin is stuck underwater, Suyin leaves to save them and says goodbye to his daughter; who would have liked to come; with her. Later; when Jonas Taylor goes on a rescue mission, he meets Meiying in a submarine she nicknamed "Captain Bubbles". Meiying annoys him; by calling him "crazy" and Jonas reassures her that; he will bring Suyin, and Captain Bubbles back safe and sound.
Later; when the scientists argue, Meiying thanks Jonas for saving her mother, Suyin. Then, she goes to play with a Sphero BOLT robotic ball toy and finds herself face to face with the Meg, who frightens her by biting the bay window. When her mother comes to see her, Meiying says there is a monster outside and right after the Meg returns to kill a baby whale. Later, the group is attacked by the titular shark; who kills several of the scientists; including Meiying's grandfather, Zhang. The surviving group returns to Mana One, followed; by Suyin announcing Zhang's death to the crew; before Zach hugs her.
Towards the end of the film, Meiying is with the group leaving for Sanjay Bay where the Meg will soon attack. During the chaos, journalists' helicopters crash; into each other, followed by another; which crashes; into the ship, forcing everyone on board to jump; into the water. While DJ is freaked out, Meiying tells him to calm down and; make less noise so as not to attract the Meg. Suddenly, Suyin's sub comes out of the water and Meiying, DJ and the others climb on it as Jonas kills the Meg, after; which, the survivors board a wedding boat and celebrate their survival and pay homage to those; who have died. When Jonas tells him that; he would like a vacation now, Meiying laughs, offering to introduce him to her mother.
