The Meg was a female megalodon and the titular antagonist of the 2018 science fiction film, The Meg.

Biography[]

The Meg was the cause of much of the damage which took place.

At the climax of the film, the Meg's mate is killed by Suyin Zhang and the main characters think that they have killed the "Meg"; until she jumps out of the water, eats her deceased mate, and sinks the boat in the process. Shortly before she does this, Jonas Taylor notices that the bite marks on the wreckage didn't match that of the smaller 50ft meg they had killed.

After realizing that the explosive torpedoes don't work, Jonas piloted his submersible underneath the Meg and cut her stomach open with the submersibles propeller. After the Meg destroys the sub, Jonas swims out of it and latches onto the Meg by stabbing her with a knife. He then impales her eye with a harpoon as she breaches, finally killing the Meg. Her body is devoured by smaller sharks.

Behavioral[]

The female Megalodon exhibits a strong attraction to the substantial amount of blood from her deceased mate, which is difficult to overlook and implies a potential cannibalistic behavior. But her primary interest lies in hunting whales, as they provide larger portions of food, therefore; satiating her hunger and reducing the need to target a significant number of humans. This preference is influenced; by her ability to detect the calls of whales; which serve as a signal to focus her hunting efforts on these marine mammals.
