Haiqi

Haiqi is a megalodon featured in the film, Meg 2: The Trench. She is the pet meg of Jiuming Zhang and serves as an anti-hero; by playing a pivotal role in the film; defeating a prehistoric Kraken.

Characteristics[]

Unlike other Megalodons, Haiqi is albino; who's skin color might resemble Angel's from the books.

Behavior[]

Haiqi, the first of her species to be partially domesticated, was discovered as a young pup and underwent training under the guidance of her trainer. Notably, she has shown a positive response to a loud noise produced by a machine, which effectively prevents her from attacking her caretaker. The trainer has observed that Haiqi's behavior differs during the week, as she has displayed a tendency to exhibit high-speed aggression towards her trainer. Additionally, it has been noted that during a full moon, she enters a trance-like state that intensifies her aggression, causing her eyes to roll back, leading her to escape from her enclosure in search of potential mates.

Haiqi successfully found a mate named Scarface and joined his pack. In a remarkable turn of events, she unintentionally saved her caretaker's life during a confrontation with a Kraken. It is possible that her instincts, triggered by the proximity to the large marine animal, compelled her to fight it off, as other members of the Megalodon pack have shown scars from similar encounters. However, coincidentally, she ended up protecting her trainer. Despite this, Haiqi continues to respond to her caretaker's commands, albeit requiring multiple repetitions of the loud noise to redirect her attention. The mating behavior, she exhibited with Scarface suggests that she may be pregnant and actively seeking a secure location for her offspring.

Biography[]

Meg 2: The Trench[]

During the events of the first film, the Meg gives birth to an albino pup, Haiqi, who she had with her mate. Some time later, Haiqi is captured by Jiuming Zhang, who adopted the pup and raised her at a reserve in Hainan, which is maintained by the company of Jiuming himself.

Jiuming trained Haiqi using a signal emitted from a remote control device. Jiuming was very confident that he and Haiqi had an intimate relationship and that she would never hurt him. During a corporate party, he introduced Haiqi to his attendees. Jiuming’s brother-in-law, Jonas Taylor, was highly distrustful of his relationship with the Meg.

The following day, Jiuming dived into Haiqi's tank in order to prove to Jonas that she was harmless. Jonas told Jiuming to hurry out of the lagoon. But he didn't listen to Jonas and continued to use the remote to communicate with Haiqi; but; due to Haiqi's strange behavior, she rushed towards Jiuming and was ready to attack him. Thankfully, Jiuming managed to pull himself out of the lagoon; with a sling as he barely escaped Haiqi's attack.

Later; when Jonas and Jiuming's team descend to explore the Mariana Trench. Haiqi escapes from the containment and follows their submarine, Jonas lets everyone break through the thermocline layer; which most megalodons won't follow. But this time, Haiqi followed up; surprising Jonas. The reason was revealed to them. Scarface alongside the Beta Meg appears in front of Jonas's team, and one of them is the biggest megalodon; ever discovered. The reason Haiqi followed them to the trenches was because it was megalodon's mating season. Haiqi and the other two meg came to mating. Jiuming felt wonderful to see megalodons mating while Jonas didn't. But they escaped the three megs and continued their exploration.

Moments later; when Jonas' team was attacked; by Snappers while they trying to enter the underwater station, Jiuming activated a flare to lure the three megs' attention. They attacked Jonas' team and; included killing the Snappers; which; allowed Jonas' team to once again escape from the trio of Meg.

After the underwater station is destroyed, Jonas' submarine lures the trio of megs; into his pursuit; until they passed the thermocline layer and successfully escaped from the trench, going on to attack the nearby Fun Island resort and kill many of the tourists. Until Jonas and his team arrive on the island. Jonas drives a jet ski to lure the megs off the coast to; allow tourists to migrate. Scarface and the Beta Meg chase Jonas. But in the end, Jonas finally killed those two megs.

At that moment, Jiuming was attacked by an enormous prehistoric octopus who escaped the trench through the breach in the thermocline. Haiqi charged at the octopus and fought it off; allowing Jiuming to survive. As the two monsters fight, Haiqi is strangled by the octopus, causing her to seem dead; however she bit into its tentacles and lunged into its head. In the end, she dragged it into the depths of the water and finally killed it.

Haiqi had returned, and she was about to attack Jonas and Jiuming again. This time, Jiuming used a signal from the remote several times in order for Haiqi to recognize that it was him. She then changed course and swam away. Jiuming tells Jonas that he has proven Haiqi would never hurt him, but Jonas argues that she didn't hurt him because the dolphins distracted her.

In the end, they know that Haiqi may be pregnant and that she is now free at the ocean. They will plan to bring her back one day.
